(These are generalizations, obviously). However, my experience has been that--all other things being equal--the guitars I've obtained that were made in Indonesia have been of superior quality.

Some are scheduled to be built using GM tooling, but thats as close as it gets right now. All are made in Taiwan ,and yes, they are very high quality panels,as are Golden Legion.

Quality of that Era is all over the place. Some of them pretty solid and some of them current entry level squire quality. Hardware and electronics might need some attention but sound quality is classic fender. The Mexican fenders in the past 10 years are better and actually quite impressive but have gone up significantly in price as well sadly.
What you see is a China-copy Fender, jokingly known as "Chender" '61 Relic Stratocaster, and I could buy it right now if I wanted. The price? $372.60 without shipping. With shipping, probably around $425 or so. To note, yes the headstock is correct shape. It looks wrong in the photo because you're seeing guitar stand grips.
The neck is chunky, much thicker than any other Fender neck I've used, but plays nicely and feels good despite the weird construction. The blank tele headstock holds some pretty cheap looking-and-feeling tuners, but they get the job done. So like I said, I'm pretty pleased overall. Is it as good as a $1500 Fender? Nope. Is it as good as a $300

Jan 9, 2019 · Probably quite a bit better unless it's a poor design to begin with. There's no reason why a Fender made in China can't be just as good as a Fender made anywhere else. With the exception of Custom Shop they're all just mass manufactured instruments anyway. I doubt it matters much if the CNC machine is in China or anywhere else.
The Chinese have long been dogged by claims of counterfeiting and piracy, and it is true that many “fake” Fenders and Gibsons have been purchased online by unsuspecting consumers. The old adage, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”, would apply to any purported American guitar in a lower price range.
